The Speakers Lobby
  • Rangel says Senate doesn't worry him on health care

Work on a plan to overhaul the nation’s health care system faces gridlock in the U.S. Senate. But recalcitrant senators won’t stop House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) from forging ahead to craft a health care reform plan.

Rangel’s one of three committee chairs tasked by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to design a health care reform package. And the New York Democrat appears unfazed by the Senate loggerheads.

“The House should not ignore the Senate. But not concentrate on what the Senate may or may not do,” Rangel said. “I don’t have time to really think about the complexities of the Senate.”

Rangel said his foremost goal was to move a plan through the House. The tentative schedule is for Rangel’s committee and the Energy and Commerce and Education and Labor Committees to draft bills next week.

House Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson (D-CT) says he hopes leaders can roll out specifics of a plan in the next few days.

“We have more than our share of available Democratic votes,” Rangel said. “To get them (on board) is our job.”

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF STOPPING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND SUPPORTING E-VERIFY CALL NOW! TODAY! Don't let down your guard? Some state Governors demand enforcing our immigration laws? There is a battle commencing in the House and Senate this week, to weaken E-Verify and the startling amendment to fund the original two layer border fence. Sen. Rangel is still a congressman because his constituents from the Bronx, NY love him ? I remember when he attempted years ago to eliminate the Cuban embargo of course after he was approached by lobbyists to do so. This is a government which has no clue nor does it care to have a clue what is in the best interest of americans, there agenda both Dems. & Reps. are party driven and not driven by the will of the people. History repeats itself, this is the same reason why the Roman empire collapsed. Mr. Obama was in the right place at the right time to be elected but I predict will be the wrong president at the wrong time. The Democratic party like the Republicans do not seem to learn their lessons from their past mistakes.

What baloney I'm reading here. This *is not* about politics, this isn't Democrat vs. Republican, Conservative vs. Liberal. These are peoples lives we're talking about. It is a national *disgrace* that nearly ONE-SIXTH of this country have no idea how they are going to pay for healthcare *when* they need it (I think we can all agree that, eventually, everyone will need it). I think it's shameful for people to brag about "how short the wait lines are here as compared to Canada", conveniently leaving out the number than ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the patients in Canada will see a doctor, even if it isn't as fast as *they* think it should be. Can you say the same about the United States? Can you honestly look me in the eye and say that in a country with the best medical technology in the world, it is correct for so many of our citizens to be left *out*? I urge everyone here to lobby your Representatives to support H.R. 676.

I am all in favor of health care for AMERICANS. As a healthcare professional, I would like to ask why do I hear nothing about the billions of dollars that could be saved if the FREE healthcare illegal aliens are getting from this country. I doubt you would need to raise taxes if these billions could be saved from the illegal aliens. Why am I not hearing about this savings being addressed? Are illegal aliens going to continue to get FREE healthcare at our expense or are we really going to start taking care of our citizens?

Why is Rangel still a congressman. He is under investigation, and should not be on any committees, and should not have any voting rights. Pelosi shouldn't be involved until she clears up what she started with the CIA, and having seven of her cohorts doesn't make her stronger. It weakens her and the whole democRATic party. She has them on puppet strings.

To Tim Edwards: I suggest you do a Google search on: Historic tax rates before you claim "already punishing tax burden". You should "pursue happiness" by informing yourself on the fact that even WITH a tax surcharge at your tax bracket, you'll STILL be paying a relatively (historically) low tax rate.

As one of those who makes 250,000/yr, I refuse to pay an additional surtax of 3.5% on an already punishing tax burden to support other peoples health insurance. I already provide it through being an employer for 30 people. When, where, how can the constitution allow this, This is a clear infringement on my pursuit of happiness. These democrats are pushing insanity on there fiscal policy. They may ignite a tax revolt in this country, and I will welcome it.

Please keep in mind as you plot your ways to pay for the $1,000,000,000,000 health care program, if you find cost saving in the Medicare program they should be applied to the deficit of the Medicare program and to keeping it funded for a few extra years. You can not use smoke and mirrors to move a reduction in deficit as found money. It is only less money lost to the deficit. Please be honest when you tell us, the American People, where you will get the $1,000,000,000,000 to pay for this. Good Luck
