Nice article, Chad Pergram. A little long, perhaps, but it was an interesting read with insightful analysis and little spin, which is refreshing. Good job. Just when you thought American companies didn’t have enough reason to move away, here comes this legislation. It won’t even reduce emissions, just make them more expensive. How logical… One of the fundamental truths free market advocates argue is that free markets are good because they drive efficiency--that things that are too expensive get weeded out. Well, instead of imposing hard regulations, Congress has created an emissions market and created market incentive (escalating cost) to drive down emissions. Republicans should be grateful for this, because instead of Dems issuing more industry regulation, they created a market dynamic based off of the same principles conservatives always laud. Being liberal, I would rather see hard regulations that accomplished deeper reductions, but will accept this as being better than nothing. To everyone else who thinks this is the end of affordable food and profitable farms, I can only ask that you quit being so quick to believe the Chicken Littles in your party. The sky isn't falling, and fear-mongering is no substitute for informed debate. While this was more liberal than you're happy with, it's more conservative than what most liberals wanted. It's moderate, and moderate initiatives don't destroy industries.
Thank you Blair for this list: "Reps. Mary Bono Mack (R-CA), Mark Kirk (R-IL), Mike Castle (R-DE), Christopher Smith (R-NJ), Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), Leonard Lance (R-NJ), Dave Reichert (R-WA) and John McHugh (R-NY)". My husband and I and our close friends are watching the "climate change and energy bill" (which really should be called the "tax and control all Americans" bill) as closely as I am the socialized health care push. Not a single representative that supports either, whether they have an "R" or a "D" after their name will ever again receive a vote from me, my husband, or any of our close friends. As you said, I hope those representatives have enjoyed their time in office, because we will be out with our signs, our voices, our email lists, and our blogs, etc. making sure everyone remembers these votes - we're sick of this joke that's being called our representative government.
This just proves that Pelosi, Democratics and Obama are in it together, SOCIALISM. What else can you say when the government owns auto companies, insurance companies, banks, and bows down to union to do their bidding. Now with this bill we will be told how hot we heat our own homes and how cool we can keep our homes. Of course with this bill no one can afford to do either. We can thank Pelosi, Obama and Congress for lack of heat and cool in the coming years for our homes
I wrote my Congressman and let him know BEFORE the vote that Americans were keeping tab. After the vote, I wrote him again and said GOODBYE early because 2010 was his last year. I hope all Americans out there write your congressman(woman) and either congratulate them or let them know they are history in 2010 in regards to this legislation. That is all they understand...VOTES.
Do not let the Democrats in Congress get away with the unjust way they passed the Energy Tax bill. There has not been enough coverage of this scandal. They added 300 plus pages of amenments at 3 am on the day of the vote with no discussion, no debate, and no public disclosure of the contents of the bill's amendments. 300 pages! Come on! This is outrageous! They wouldn't let the minority side have copies of the amendments! Forget Michael Jackson! Don't take it for granted that the bill will have a harder time getting through the Senate. Hold the House's feet to the fire!
These people just don't get it. They still haven't learned that once you have killed the goose that lay's the golden egg (namely after they have TOTALY destroyed what is left of the economy and EVERYONE is out of work and on welfare) and there is no tax dollars coming in, just where the H@ll do they think they are going to get the money to pay for all of their pipe dreams and freeby programs. The big problem I guess is am having is whether or not what they are doing is realy legal. I don't recall that I ever told any of my congressman or senators that they could throw away/spend the tax money that I am forced to pay on things other than what that tax money was supposed to be for. ie running the goverment, security of the country etc. and not paying off the people that got their man voted into the white as well as buying car mfg's.
I'm a Minnesota voter and I support this legislation and all those people brave enough to vote for it despite the lies and slander they have coming their way. Clean energy legislation is a down payment on our future energy needs and one that will pay for itself in very short order. Its time we as a country stopped thinking short term and remembered that it might be a little harder to "heat our homes" this year, but in 20 years our children will be paying pennies on the dollar compared to what we pay now, because we will be free of expensive and limited oil reserves. It's like any adiction, leaving oil behind is going to hurt for a little while, but just like giving up cigarettes, the long term benefits are worth that price. I pledge my support to all those with the forsight to vote for this bill, and I have no doubt that they will be re-elected for their bravery in the face of the neo-con noise machine.
botox Pelosi is a joke. She should have to live like the rest of us americans. She should retire on social security and have the same health care plan that they are trying to force on all of us. Thats a way they could pay for some of their plans. Why should they get all of their salary til they die. No one else gets that much why should they!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this is an appalling view of how the politicians have lost touch with its people and are bowing to special interests and career politicians who really don't care about anything except staying in Washington DC. These politicians are killing our nation and our freedom and Obama is the worst one of the bunch (and Pelosi of course). The Amercian people have lost faith and hope in our ability to live our lives in freedom. The free Nat'l Healthcare will seal our fate if it is passed! God help us all.
